Arun Ghosh is a clarinettist, composer and music educator. Winner of 'Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year' at the 2014 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, Ghosh is a leading light on UK and international jazz scenes, captivating audiences and critics with his passionate and dynamic performance style, eloquent musical expression and a charismatic rock 'n' roll spirit.
Described by the late Pandit Ravi Shankar as a 'natural born improviser', Ghosh is a renowned innovator of the modern IndoJazz style. He has released three critically acclaimed albums on camoci records: Northern Namaste (2008), Primal Odyssey (2011), and A South Asian Suite (2013), a personal musical homage to both his beloved North of England and the Indian Subcontinent.
His forthcoming double-album, Sheer, is due for release in October 2017.
Ghosh's compositions combine South Asian raags (scales) and taals (rhythms), with the musical inspirations of his British-Asian upbringing; jazz, rock, hip-hop and dance cultures. His musical identity, infused with the sound and spirit of the blues, the bauls and the breakbeats, is at once both epoch-defying and truly global, and he has taken his sound and style around the world, performing IndoJazz concerts and delivering masterclasses from New York to China, Ukraine, Morocco, Kenya, Kuwait and across Europe.
