Eyes Shut Tight
After the success of their first two albums, 'Evolution' – 2011 and 'The Thaw' – 2012, EYES SHUT TIGHT are gaining recognition as real beacon of originality on the UK Jazz scene. Their unique blend of accessible, melodic compositions, fiery, expansive improvisation and engaging, enjoyable stage show have earned them a reputation as an unmissable Jazz act.
EYES SHUT TIGHT attempt to combine the melodic sensibilities of Esbjorn Svenson, the rhythmic complexity and propulsion of Avishai Cohen and the joyous freedom of the Jarrett/Haden/Motian trio in a fluid, interactive and intuitive way.
They are Paul Baxter – Double Bass, Johnny Tomlinson, who also performs with international recording artist Bonobo – Piano, Kristoffer Wright – Drums.
Over the last year EYES SHUT TIGHT have been featured on Jazz On 3 and The Cutting Edge on Jazz FM and on The Giles Peterson Show on BBC 6 Music.
They also were selected to perform on the BBC Introducing Stage at last years Manchester Jazz Festival which was also broadcast Jazz on 3.
Aside from his exploits with EYES SHUT TIGHT Paul won the 2012 'Jazz Yorkshire Composer/ Arranger of the Year' Award, was nominated for the 2013 and 2014 'Take 5 – Edition VIII' run by Serious for composers with serious potential and has just completed his Masters in Jazz at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Paul also runs his own big band called The Give A Little Love Jazz Orchestra.
