Matthew Smith

Matthew has been playing professional engagements since 1994. He became a full time professional musician after graduating from the Leeds College of Music in 2000. Since then he has been combining performance, teaching and composition.

As a saxophonist Matthew has recorded sessions for BBC Television and Radio, Channel 4, and Sky Television. He has toured and recorded throughout the Uk and in Europe with a wide range of bands and artists, including: Jimmy James & The Vagabonds;  This Is Seb Clarke; The American Drifters; The Blues Brothers; Mad Dog & The Sophisticats; The American Four Tops; The Glenn Miller Tribute Orchestra;  The Memphis Belle Orchestra;  The Extreme Supremes; Boogie Night Fever;  Superfly;  The Elvis Collection; Ernest; Paul Judge & The Jackals; Jazzjones; Grounation; Nu-York State;  Mambo Jambo; Thirdface; Bossa Revista; Stevie Williams; Matthew Bourne; Jamie Taylor; Thom Whitworth.

As a composer/producer Matthew signed to Lifesound Records in 2006 when his first album, 'There Is Strength Inside' was released. His second album, 'Stand Up' was recorded live and released in 2010. He has also received regular composition and arranging commisions from the Lincolnshire Council and more recently from the theatre company, Other Lives Productions. He also writes and arranges regularly for the Hull Saxophone Collective bands.
