Peter Edwards

Peter Edwards is a composer, arranger and award winning bandleader. He is an alumnus of the Tomorrow’s Warriors Young Artist Development Programme, for which he is now a member of the music leader faculty. He has been the Musical Director of the Nu Civilisation Orchestra since 2010, and has received commissions from creative producers Tomorrow's Warriors, The British Film Institute, the London Jazz Festival and Turner Sims. He began his career arranging and directing Duke Ellington's The Queen's Suite for jazz orchestra and, since then, has gone on to direct projects featuring artists such as poet Lemn Sissay, vocalist Zara McFarlane and has composed/arranged music for dance, film and the concert hall. His music has been broadcast on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio3, Jazz FM and has been performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Montreal Jazz Festival and the British Film Institute Southbank.

2016 British Film Institute/Tomorrow's Warriors Live commissioned music for Oscar Micheaux 1925 silent film Body and Soul' featuring Paul Robeson

2016 Tomorrow's Warriors Live commissioned arrangement of live Miles Davis soundtrack for John Akomfrah's documentary film, The Stuart Hall Project

2015 Tomorrow's Warriors Live commission for Bridge To Our Memories project broadcast on BBC Radio 3

2014 London Jazz Festival Commission - Solo Electronic Suite 

2013 (to date) co-writer, arranger and pianist for MOBO and Jazz FM award winning artist Zara McFarlane

2013 Tomorrow's Warriors Live commissioned arrangement for Nu Civilisation Orchestra of Charles Mingus' The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady for London Jazz Festival 

2012 Blues Ostinata - Original music for Nu Civilisation Orchestra

2012 Parallel - orchestration and arrangements of music by Joe Harriott for Nu Civilisation Orchestra 

2011 Population -  collaboration with poet Lemn Sissay and dub master, Dennis Bovell commissioned the Royal Society and exhibited in video form at the Royal Academy of Arts 

2010 Arrangements of Duke Ellington's The Queen's Suite and original music Above and Beyond the Horizon. Both works are featured in Corine Dhondee's documentary The Queen's Suite.
