The Dime Notes
The Dime Notes join us to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the world’s most famous jazz city, digging back into the blues-drenched sounds of clarinet-driven 1920’s New Orleans jazz. On the way, they unearth a repertoire of stomps, blues, and forgotten gems of the era from musicians including Johnny Dodds, Jelly Roll Morton and Red Nichols.
The band’s fronted by Chris Barber’s long-term clarinettist, David Horniblow, and US pianist/composer/musicologist and Jelly Roll Morton specialist Andrew Oliver. Their sound’s anchored by the knockout rhythm section of guitarist Dave Kelbie (Django à la Creole) and bassist Tom Wheatley, known for his swing and versatility.
The Dime Notes present a fresh take on a timeless style, emphasising the grooves and melodies that made early jazz revolutionary, controversial, and wildly popular.
