Ikarai: Muhammad - The Rumble in the Jungle in Concert
Ikarai presents the dance of the century...
The stage is transformed into a boxing ring: Dutch ensemble Ikarai takes the audience into the tale of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali.
The Rumble in the Jungle, the epic fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in 1974 in Kinshasa, Zaïre (now Congo), is the perfect match for a musical score: rhythmic, gracious, honest but with heavy blows. The result is a daring fight between classical, jazz and audio-visual samples from the famous fight and Ali’s charismatic speeches.
Ikarai, featuring violin, viola, cello, bass, piano and drums, weaves the worlds of classical composition and improvisation into the soundtrack of an epic tale. Muhammad creates a musical score for Ali's physical and social confrontations and is an ode to the greatest boxer of all time.
